What We Believe

Statements of Faith

Our Statement of Faith is more than a list of doctrines. It is an anchor for what we believe, what we teach, and how we live together as a people. We believe theology matters because what we believe about God shapes how we behold Him, worship Him, and represent Him.

Our desire is not to build theology around personal preference, tradition, or matters of opinion, but around the person of Jesus and the truth revealed in Scripture. Where Scripture speaks clearly, we want to stand firmly. Where faithful believers may differ, we want to walk with humility, grace, and the fear of the Lord.

Ultimately, our theology must lead us somewhere: to Jesus. We don't want to simply know more about Him; we want every truth we believe to produce greater love, reverence, obedience, and devotion to Him. He is the center of what we believe because He is the center of everything.

  • We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible, authoritative, and sufficient Word of God. They are the final authority for faith, doctrine, conduct, and ministry.

  • We believe there is one true and living God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each Person of the Trinity is fully God, coequal, coeternal, and worthy of worship.

  • We believe God created all things for His glory and that humanity was uniquely created in His image, made to know Him, worship Him, walk with Him, and fulfill His purposes upon the earth.

  • We believe humanity fell through sin and rebellion against God, bringing separation, corruption, and death into the world. All have sinned and are in need of the redemption and reconciliation found only in Jesus Christ.

  • We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross, rose bodily from the grave, ascended into Heaven, presently reigns at the right hand of the Father, intercedes for His people, and will return bodily in glory.

  • We believe Jesus willingly gave Himself upon the cross, bearing our sin and suffering in our place. Through His shed blood, He purchased forgiveness, reconciliation, redemption, and victory over sin and death, securing for Himself a people who belong wholly to Him.

  • We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is the free gift of God and cannot be earned through human effort. Those who place their faith in Christ are forgiven, reconciled to God, made new, and called to lives of continual repentance and obedience.

  • We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer and empowers the Church for holy living, worship, discipleship, evangelism, ministry, and witness. We affirm the present-day ministry of the Holy Spirit, including His gifts, fruit, guidance, conviction, comfort, empowerment, and sanctifying work.

  • We believe every believer is called to a life set apart unto God. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, we are continually transformed into the likeness of Jesus, learning to walk in holiness, obedience, purity, and surrender.

  • We believe the Church is the Body and Bride of Christ, with Jesus alone as its Head. The Church exists to worship and minister to the Lord, proclaim the Gospel, make disciples of all nations, love and care for one another, and bear witness to the Kingdom of God.

  • We believe that through Jesus Christ every believer has been given access to God and called into a holy priesthood. We are called first to minister before the Lord, offering our lives to Him through worship, prayer, obedience, holiness, and surrender.

  • We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit remain active and available to the Church today. We also affirm Christ's giving of apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers for the equipping, strengthening, and maturing of His people. All gifts and ministry are to operate under the authority of Scripture, in love, humility, discernment, and biblical order.

  • We believe water baptism and the Lord's Supper were given by Jesus to His Church. Baptism publicly identifies the believer with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, while Communion remembers and proclaims His sacrificial death until He returns.

  • We believe the Kingdom of God was inaugurated through Jesus Christ, is presently at work through His people by the power of the Holy Spirit, and will be fully realized when Christ returns. We desire His Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

  • We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. Those who belong to Christ will enjoy everlasting life in His presence, while those who reject Him will face eternal judgment.

  • We believe Jesus Christ will personally, bodily, and visibly return in glory to judge the living and the dead, establish His everlasting Kingdom in fullness, and make all things new. We look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the restoration of creation under the reign of Jesus Christ.

  • We believe Jesus Christ is the Head of His Church, the center of our worship, the foundation of our doctrine, the source of our salvation, and the supreme authority over every ministry, gathering, leader, and decision of Altar House Co. Everything exists through Him and for Him, and our deepest desire is that Jesus would receive the glory, honor, worship, and reward that belong to Him.
